Dickson Adom (PhD) is a Senior Member and a multidisciplinary researcher in the Department of Educational Innovations in Science and Technology, Faculty of Educational Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. His research operates at the nexus of indigenous knowledge systems, art, nature conservation, digital solutions, and education.

He is a Visiting Scholar at Pangasinan State University in the Philippines and a Research Fellow at INTI International University, Malaysia. His scholarly work explores how indigenous knowledge and creative practices can be leveraged for sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and transformative education in both formal and informal learning contexts.

Short Biography

Evans Kwadwo Donkor teaches as an associate professor at Takoradi Technical University’s Sculpture Technology Department. He is widely known for his composite sculptures created from leftover auto parts, scrap metal, and other industrial waste materials. Donkor earned his PhD in Arts and Culture from the University of Education, Winneba.

As an artist, he is deeply committed to giving every material renewed life by bending, assembling, and affixing different components, transforming aged materials into expressive works imbued with vitality and meaning. His practice emphasizes environmental sustainability and material consciousness within contemporary art and cultural discourse.

Dr. Kwame Baah Owusu Panin (PhD) holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in African Art and Culture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, and a Master of Fine Art in Jewellery and Metalsmithing.

He takes inspiration from biomimicry and manipulates complex designs into metal products through fabrication and casting processes. As a jeweller and metal product designer, he works with precious, ferrous, and scrap metals, recycling and transforming them into artistic and functional works. Kwame believes that nothing is impossible, encouraging purposeful creativity and innovation in art and design practice.

Dr. Nyamawero Navei is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Research in Culture and Creative Arts (CeRCCA), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Ghana. His primary research is dedicated to the critical interrogation and revitalisation of indigenous African artistic and cultural traditions, with a specific focus on Ghana. Employing a postcolonial lens, his work reconstructs the authentic epistemologies embedded within these practices, affirming their constitutive role in shaping contemporary African, and specifically Ghanaian, cultural identity.

A central pillar of his scholarship investigates art education, examining how artistic praxis can be strategically cultivated as a foundation for sustainable livelihoods, poverty alleviation, and economic empowerment. This positions arts and culture as direct contributors to livelihood empowerment and national development. Responding to the contemporary environmental crisis, his research incorporates a forward-looking imperative on ecological sustainability. Dr Navei formulates models for artistic production that actively honour and preserve the environment, advocating for creative practices that are both materially and ethically sustainable. Collectively, his work occupies a critical nexus at the intersection of cultural heritage, educational innovation, and environmental stewardship.

She holds a PhD and master’s degree in African Art and Culture from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and a BeD in Art Education specializing in Textiles and Basketry from the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana.

She is a multidisciplinary researcher whose work intersects indigenous and western cultural practices and systems for the social sustainability of Africa, with a focus on Ghana. Her research interests include sociocultural and visual arts studies, particularly indigenous knowledge and roles expressed through African traditional practices in medicine, economics, health, belief systems, and visual art forms. Her work explores how these practices contribute to bridging Africa with other continents through global recognition of traditions and customs. Dr. BONSU has participated in international academic conferences and professional development programmes in Ghana. Her recent research examines traditional sustainability, emphasizing the coexistence of diverse cultures within the same environment based on full recognition and mutual respect.

Dr. Azaglo is a member of professional bodies such as Design Ghana and the Art Teachers’ Association of Ghana. He has served as an itinerant and assistant examiner with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Ghana, since 2016. His undergraduate teaching portfolio includes Introduction and Studio Practice in Graphic Design, Methods of Teaching Visual Arts, Curriculum Studies in Visual Arts, and the History and Philosophical Foundations of Visual Arts. She is a multidisciplinary researcher whose work intersects linguistics, indigenous knowledge systems, and social sustainability. Her research interests include sociolinguistics, oral literature, multilingual and second language education, language and gender, and the role of language in environmental sustainability. She focuses particularly on indigenous ecological knowledge expressed through African oral traditions—especially proverbs, narratives, and other verbal art forms—and how these contribute to environmental ethics, cultural continuity, and community cohesion. Lucy Afeafa Ry-Kottoh (PhD, Stirling; MBA, Hull; BA, Kumasi) is a Commonwealth Scholar and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Publishing Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, where she also manages the Design Press. She has over 24 years of teaching and research experience in higher education. She holds a PhD in Publishing Studies from the University of Stirling, Scotland; an MBA in General Business Administration from the University of Hull, England; and a BA in Publishing Studies from KNUST, Ghana.

Dr. Ry-Kottoh has chaired committees, led teams to formulate policy and action plans, established a journal, and reviewed academic articles. She has presented papers at conferences and seminars in Scotland, England, Italy, and Denmark, and facilitated workshops in Ghana and Uganda (online). Luke Amateye Tettehfio (PhD) is a Lecturer at the Department of Industrial Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Art Education and a BA in Integrated Rural Art and Industry, both from KNUST. Born on 31 October 1982 at Sege-Ada in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, Dr. Tettehfio is committed to advancing indigenous art education and knowledge preservation.

Among his notable achievements, he has contributed to curriculum reform in Colleges of Education, working with T-TEL as a Professional Development Coordinator. His research and teaching focus on indigenous art and technology, indigenous fibres and fabrics, curriculum development, and the integration of local knowledge in art education. Moses Opoku (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion and Textile Technology at Sunyani Technical University (STU), Ghana. He holds a PhD in Textiles and Fashion from the Federal University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria; a Master of Technology Education in Fashion and Textiles, and a Bachelor of Education in Fashion and Textile Studies from the University of Education, Winneba. He also holds a Higher National Diploma in Fashion and Textile Studies from Kumasi Technical University, a Diploma in Competency-Based Training from Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), and a Certificate in Education from the University of Education, Winneba.

Dr. Opoku is a multidisciplinary researcher whose work spans the clothing and textile industry and its technologies. He has a keen interest in fashion entrepreneurship, helping numerous fashion graduates establish their businesses. His research and publications focus on fashion entrepreneurship among university graduates, innovations in clothing production, and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the garment industry. Dennis Atsu Dake is a lecturer in the Department of Graphic Communication Design at Tamale Technical University (TaTU), Ghana. He is also a practitioner-educator in graphic communication design, with multidisciplinary research interests that include art and design education, inclusive education, educational evaluation, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Dennis earned both his PhD and MPhil in Art Education from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Graphic Design from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Commercial Art (Graphic Design option) from Takoradi Technical University (formerly Takoradi Polytechnic). He has been teaching and mentoring students in photography, introduction to graphic communication design, publication design, videography, computer-aided design, and photo concept design, and also teaches design-related courses in the University’s Computer Science Department.

Prof. Osakue Stevenson Omoera is a leading scholar in applied media, film, and theatre studies. His research focuses on Nollywood studies, with particular emphasis on indigenous language films; media sociology, especially the social impacts of the media; and cultural dynamics, with special attention to theatre and African performance studies, cultural communication, and development communication. He is credited with pioneering scholarly inquiry into Benin films in Nollywood studies and developed the “Active Volcano Paradigm” for studying English as a language of mass communication in broadcast media news in Nigeria.

He has served as Jury President/Chairman of the Edo Movie and Music Academy Awards (2013); Member of the Jury, Bayelsa International Film Festival (2021); Head of Jury, Edo State International Film Festival (2022); Jury President, Lagos International Film Festival (2023); and Co-Chairman of Jury, Edo State International Film Festival (2023). He is widely travelled and has published extensively in leading journals and specialist books.

Prof. Steve Kquofi is Professor and current Head of the Department of Educational Innovations in Science and Technology (DEIST) and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Ghana. Prof. Steve Kquofi, currently the Coordinator of Distance Learning programmes (Master of Education and MSc/MPhil Educational Innovations and Leadership Science) at DEIST, received his Ph.D. (African Art and Culture), M.A. (African Art and Culture) and B.A. (Art, Graphic Design option) degrees from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. He currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the Faculty of Art and Faculty of Educational Studies in KNUST. 

He has a reputation as an artist/ researcher/ professional teacher and an art educator with outstanding record of publications including scholarly articles and books. Steve has been a professional teacher since 1990 and had taught in the basic schools before joining the tertiary institution. He has supervised and examined several students in MPhil/PhD Art Education, Master of Education and MSc/MPhil Educational Innovations and Leadership Science.  Currently, Steve is supervising over 20 students in MPhil Art Education, Master of Education as well as MSc/MPhil Educational Innovations and Leadership Science. Additionally, Steve has supervised and is still supervising several students in MPhil/PhD in African & Culture degree programmes. His areas of expertise are diverse and varied. This expertise includes cultural anthropology; African art, global art history; art education; TVET; museums and monuments studies; socio-cultural practices and environmental aesthetics; traditional ecological knowledge in biodiversity conservation; as well as aesthetics and criticism in sub-Sahara African art. 

Currently, Steve is researching into how to effectively employ art and aesthetics in environmental protection in sub-Saharan Africa and its implications to art education.  Besides, he is a prolific graphic artist designing for top corporate bodies in Ghana. As an astute art educator and a skilled graphic artist, Steve currently holds an international position as the National Technical Expert in charge of Graphic Design Technology skill area representing Ghana at the WorldSkills International, training the youth to participate in WorldSkills Competitions at the local, national, regional and international levels.
